These are the slogans of excitement, joy and happiness of our more than 15,000 women saltpan workers and millions of members of SEWA – as SEWA gets selected as the 2026 GAEA Awards winner by the World Economic Forum – recognising collaborations that are accelerating systems change for people, nature and climate.
This award highlights the power of working together to turn shared ambition into real-world impact. Thank you to all our partners who made this possible.
For over five decades, the Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA), having a current membership of over 3.2 million women workers – has organized poor informal sector women workers across India — to achieve the twin goals of Full Employment and Self-Reliance.
From the salt pans of the Little Rann of Kutch to home-based enterprises and cooperatives across India, SEWA’s members continue to demonstrate how women workers of the informal economy are not just participants in change — they are leaders of Change.
Through Organizing to Build Collective strength and Bargaining power, to adopting new technology and rising higher-up in the DRE value chain – SEWA’s salt-farmers sisters —have transformed their livelihoods: reducing debt, increasing income, and leading India’s grassroots green transition.
