Village-based producers' groups from 9 districts, cooperatives, and district-level associations have joined hands to form this new marketing organisation. With the Gujarat Government's support, rural producers are finding markets for their products through Gram Mahila Haat.
SEWA Gram Mahila Haat plans to support 3,000 producer's groups in terms of marketing. In this way, 42,000 families living in poverty will have access to new employment opportunities. This new organisation was registered in April 1999. The main objective of SEWA Gram Mahila Haat is to provide marketing services to rural producers. Other services that will be provided are:
Management and technical services;
Market-research services;
Capacity building so that rural producers increasingly become owners and managers of their groups; and
Assisting groups to obtain working capital.
